We are Team STEAM Robotics. We are a FIRST Robotics Competition Team, #5119, based in Lawrence, Kansas with students from all four Lawrence high schools.
News about the Kansas Cup…
Team STEAM is very excited about a new opportunity that has been presented to us, however, this unfortunately means that this year’s Kansas Cup will not be taking place. We had every intention of holding the event, but, this new opportunity (and our December FLL tournament!) will benefit everyone in our FIRST community, and we wanted to give it our full attention. We hope you will be as excited about this new opportunity as we are, and follow us for more details about it in the future!
Here is where you can see all of our accomplishments this year and our upcoming and planned events for the rest of the year.
In January, we started off build season with some spectacular sponsors and mentors, we also were able to create a competition robot and a testing version of the robot to keep editing after build season had finished.
In March,we attended the FRC POWER UP competition and finished as 6th seed and in 7th place as well as winning the Innovation In Control Award, which is given to the team with the best scores for the autonomous portion of the round.
In June and July, we are hosting Robotics Summer Camps for students who are entering middle school where they will get to program and build fun sized robots with Raspberry Pis and servo motors, these camps aim to interest kids in STEM by giving them a chance to try out for themselves what we do in FIRST. A few members of our team also went to KCDC (Kansas City Developer Convention) to show off what we do and who we are there.
In October, we plan on attending the Cow-town Throw-down event again. Below are some photos of last years event.
November will bring the Kansas Cup which is a practice competition for teams in Kansas and the Kansas City area. Below are some photos of last years Kansas Cup where we hosted the first annual Kansas Cup called FIRST SteamWorks. Previous years photos below.
With December comes a FIRST Lego League (the FIRST Competition for fourth through eighth graders) tournament hosted at Lawrence High School. Many students from Team STEAM will be volunteering to help FLL kids foster a long-lasting interest in STEM.
