Who is Team STEAM?
Team STEAM is a FIRST Robotics Competition team which was officially founded in 2014 along with the introduction of the Aerial Assist challenge. The team has grown from a small group of five people to a large team nearing 50 active students and eight mentors. In late 2015 we completely restructured and re-branded our team. Our team, formally known as Free State Robotics, became Team Steam by joining together with all schools in the Lawrence area. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math– the five disciplines that we combine. We earned a “Rookie Team of the Year” award in 2014 with our first robot Jerry. In 2016, we enjoyed considerable success at the Kansas City Regional, placing 2nd in qualifying matches in 2016 with our robot Kyle. In 2017, we won the Entrepreneurship Award at the Kansas City Regional. In 2018, we won the Innovation in Control Award at the Heartland Regional. This year, we attended the Central Missouri Regional. We are based in Lawrence, Kansas.
